Trees, bushes, undergrowth and dappled light in secluded woods depicted in hard ground and aquatint on a copper plate.
This print is one of a small series of four works focusing on the area in Devon where Agatha Christie had her holiday home, Greenway, on the banks of the river Dart, near Dartmouth and Kingsway. Filled with treasures from her family's collection, the location featured in and inspired locations in a number of her books. Christie she described it as, "the loveliest place in the world".
Each print in the series has a title based on a literary quote about nature, shortened and amended to fit the image and space.
About the artist:
Fiona Hamilton is a Bristol based printmaker. Her work explores the ecological sublime and an appreciation of the majesty of nature. She uses detailed intaglio etching, drypoint, lithography and chine collé to draw the viewer into an ethereal landscape that has an impact on our sense of place in relation to the natural world. She uses primarily black and white with natural tones of chine collé and sometimes layers of lithographic texture to introduce warmth to the stark palette and to invoke a sublime emotional connection. She works from sketches, photographs, notes and memory to create my prints.
Fiona has an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking from The University of the West of England. Previously she studied Graphic Fine Art at Canterbury, and established Soma Gallery in 2004.
